It has been a while since we last wrote about our journey as part of the Conqueror Challenge. We are continuing apace with our travels, however! We have left The Shire long behind, arrived at Bree in good time, and after a night of danger at the Prancing Pony, we have moved on.

Now we find ourselves in the Midgewater Marshes. Though this was by no means the most dangerous part of the hobbits' long walk to the heart of Mount Doom, it was the first time they walked with another member of their expanding Fellowship. They knew little of the ranger Strider; Gandalf had sent them to meet him, but now that they had encountered the man, they still had their doubts.

Trust is something that is built up over time, through our deeds more than simply by our words. One can make many a promise, but without the will to abide by them, such words are worthless. Strider, who we will eventually learn is Aragorn, heir of Isildur and true King of Gondor, earns the trust of the hobbits by leading them, by being kind to them, by defending them.

We can do such things. We walk almost every day so that we can prove ourselves capable of keeping to our own promises. We always link to our fundraiser for the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank because we want to remember that this isn't just to give ourselves personal props. We're walking every mile because we believe in our ability to do so and we believe we can raise the money we've aimed for.

We're 24% of the way to our goal of $1,000. We have a lot of miles left to go, and a lot of money left to raise, but we put trust in ourselves. We can make it through the Marsh. We can first reach Amon Sûl and rest, then carry on to Rivendell. And from there? Well, we'll just have to walk and see.
